After each successful PvP match, you are granted a chest. Chests are then left at the bottom of the screen, where they require some time to pass before they can be opened. Gems can also be used to skip that time.

The " + " slots are chest slots which can be unlocked with Nutaku Gold. Tapping on any of the unpurchased slots will take you to the purchase screen, where it can be permanently unlocked.
